Pojetí lidské důstojnosti v dokumentu Dignitas infinita pohledem relevantních výpovědí knihy Genese, Žalmu 8, knihy Job a Deuteronomium

The Concept of Human Dignity in the Document ‘Dignitas infinita’ in the Light of Key Statements from Genesis, Psalm 8, the Book of Job and Deuteronomy

Jindřich Šrajer

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):1-1511

This article examines the foundational concept of human dignity in the 2024 document Dignitas infinita in the light of selected Old Testament texts (Genesis, Psalm 8, Job and Deuteronomy). It argues that the document’s fourfold understanding of dignity – ontological, moral, social and existential – finds firm grounding in Old Testament tradition. Genesis establishes ontological dignity as the inalienable value of the human person. Psalm 8 emphasizes its relational and functional character. Job highlights the resilience of dignity in suffering and Deuteronomy provides the normative framework for its protection. The study confirms that...

Trojí Kristův úřad v christologii: Ekumenický příspěvek k dějinám teologického myšlení

The Three Offices of Christ in Christology: An Ecumenical Contribution to the History of Theological Thinking

Veronika Řeháková

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):17-427

Based on an analysis, interpretation, and comparison of selected texts, the author points out key moments in the constitution of Christ’s threefold office in the history of Christian thought. She presents the main ideas of individual theologians on the subject and compares them. She focuses, in the first part, on the threefold anointing of Christ in the work of Eusebius of Caesarea. The second, longest part deals with sixteenth century texts from the Lutheran, Reformed, and Catholic traditions in which the threefold office of Christ appears. John Calvin first used it as part of his doctrine of salvation. The author then discusses the reception...

Proti zlu: Teologická interpretace české veřejné debaty o válce na Ukrajině

Against Evil: A Theological Interpretation of Czech Public Discourse on the War in Ukraine

Jiří Dosoudil

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):43-663

The article offers a theological interpretation of Czech society’s experience of the war in Ukraine. It is based on the observation that the public response to this conflict bears the features of a struggle over what is perceived as sacred, in other words as a sphere of values regarded as non‑negotiable and inviolable. The aim is to understand why the threat to these values in a secular context takes on the characteristics of a religious experience of loss, and how this phenomenon can be approached theologically. Methodologically, the study adopts an interpretative and comparative approach, analysing social expressions of solidarity as...

Chápanie elektrickej sily a magnetizmu v strednej Európe v 18. storočí na podklade Fyziky Martina Krúziho

The Concept of Electricity and Magnetism in Central Europe in the Eighteenth Century as Presented in Physics by Martin Krúzi

Peter Volek, Lukáš Vaník

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):67-887

In the eighteenth century, many Piarists working in Central Europe also adopted the positive ideas of the Enlightenment. Martin of St. Urban Krúzi, SchP (1736–1801) was among them. The article examines the reception of Early Modern natural sciences in the eighteenth century in today’s Slovakia and neighbouring regions through the lens of electricity and magnetism as understood by Martin Krúzi and other Piarists and Jesuits in Hungary and beyond. Building on previous research on Krúzi’s views, this study focuses for the first time on his interpretation of experimental and theoretical knowledge about electricity and magnetism. An analysis...

Na ceste k zmyslu: Komparatívna analýza prístupov Susan Wolfovej a Viktora Emanuela Frankla

On the Path to Meaning: A Comparative Analysis of the Approaches of Susan Wolf and Viktor Emanuel Frankl

Michal Chabada, Peter Halama

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):89-11210

The primary aim of the article is to evaluate, be means of comparative and metaethical analysis, the ways in which objectivity of values is justified within the concepts of meaning of Susan Wolf and Viktor Emanuel Frankl. Both authors agree on the need to integrate a subjective engagement with objective values. The fundamental difference lies in the source of objectivity. While Wolf bases it on intersubjective social recognition (meaning as a construct), Frankl derives it from a non‑natural reality, thereby shifting toward a stronger form of objectivism (meaning as discovery). Both concepts are simultaneously open to a moderate form of supernaturalism....

Paměť na svatého Vedasta ve franské hagiografické produkci

The Memory of Saint Vedast in Frankish Hagiographical Production

Martin Šenk

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):113-1254

St Vedast served as a bishop in the Frankish realm during the reign of the first Christian Merovingian king, Clovis I. Through two hagiographical writings, Vedast entered Frankish historical memory, in all probability because these narratives included accounts of the saint’s cooperation with King Clovis. In the seventh century, a coherent hagiographical writing devoted to Vedast was composed by Jonas of Bobbio, although his authorship has recently been questioned. This text was comprehensively revised by Alcuin of York at the end of the eighth century. This study first examines how Jonas of Bobbio constructed the memory of St Vedast and how his...

On the Cyril and Methodius Tradition in the Italian Environment of Slovak Exile as Reflected in the Contemporary Press (Especially of the Periodical Press Voices from Rome)

Zuzana Lopatková, Radoslava Ristovská

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):127-1497

The heritage and tradition of Sts. Cyril and Methodius assumed a particular significance in the period after the Second World War, especially after the February 1948 in Czechoslovakia, where the rise of the regime led to the open persecution of churches. Hopes for the continuation of the legacy of Sts. Cyril and Methodius were especially evident in Slovak emigration to the USA, Canada and Italy. One of the most important expatriate periodicals, which reflected the situation in Czechoslovakia, but at the same time presented information from the free world, was the monthly Voices from Rome. In addition to the plethora of information and subjects in its...

Několik poznámek ke kartografii naděje

Some Remarks on the Cartography of Hope

Martin Fojtíček

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):151-1745

When Pope Francis announced the Holy Year 2025, he called on us to become pilgrims of hope. At the end of the Holy Year, Pope Leo issued an apostolic letter entitled Drawing New Maps of Hope. There is a focus in this paper on several principles on which a possible “cartography of hope” could be built in order to offer pilgrims of hope comprehensible and practical maps. There is an analysis of how to describe hope in a way that makes it accessible without losing its deeper meaning. We provide several historical and terminological notes on this question. We consequently explore the relationship of hope and probability and introduce Ariel...

Cesta za zrcadlo: Alternativní spiritualita a proč by se o ni měli křesťané zajímat

A Journey Through the Looking Glass: Alternative Spirituality and Why Christians Should Care About It

Jana Maryšková

Studia Theologica 2026, 28(2):175-1955

The article deals with the phenomenon of alternative spirituality and in connection with it asks the question of why Christians should be interested in alternative spirituality. It presents three possible perspectives on alternative spirituality that Christians should reflect on in view of their responsibility for today’s world, solidarity with the entire human family, but also the need for a critical attitude towards undesirable development trends. In this context, it first deals with alternative spirituality as a desire for deeper spirituality, for meaning. It then presents the concept of alternative spirituality as an engaged spirituality...
