Pavel Ambros

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):1-20 | 10.5507/sth.2017.001

The reform vision of Pope Francis is determined by a demand for accompanying, for discerning, in order to integrate human weakness. These efforts follow in the footsteps of previous popes (Benedict XVI and St. John Paul II) aimed at bringing the conclusions of the Second Vatican Council to life. The presented study draws attention to the gradual development of the theological concept of the term aggiornamento, signs of the times and the council reception. It focuses on a deeper anchoring of pastoration reform within the Jesuit practice of spiritual discerning. It specifies its theological contents and reflects on its roots in patristic tradition and...

Otázka obsazování uprázdněných kanonikátů olomoucké kapituly v době episkopátu arcibiskupa Antonína Cyrila Stojana

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):21-44 | 10.5507/sth.2017.002

As of the late eighteenth century, free canons were occupied in the even months by the Chapter and in the odd months by the Emperor. The Emperor also occupied so‑called Royal canons (stricte regius). A noble status was a condition for applicants to the canon in the Chapter Statutes as well. After extensive effort, a decision was made that the Emperor might designate a non-noble priest to the canons (1880). After the end of the monarchy, the Olomouc Chapter sought to obtain the right to designate all the canons. This was in conflict, however, with the provisions of the newly issued Code of Canon Law (1917). The Czechoslovak government...

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):45-59 | 10.5507/sth.2017.003

The aim of this paper is to examine the life and work of the Austrian priest, Jesuit and biologist Erich Wasmann (1859-1931) and specifically his contribution to a deeper understanding of the theory of evolution and its reception by Catholic theology. The bio- graphy of the person of Erich Wasmann is presented first, followed by his work, biological research, concept of evolution, the possibility of its application to man, its philosophical and sociological consequences and the controversies between Erich Wasmann and Ernst Haeckel, a protagonist of monism and materialism, are described. František Kunetka

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):61-89 | 10.5507/sth.2017.004

The receiving of the Eucharist is also a constituent part of the liturgy of Good Friday in the contemporary liturgy of the Roman rite. This was not always the case, however, over the course of history. This study consequently first analyses the liturgical sources of Antiquity (Itinerarium Egeriae) and of the early Middle Ages (Ordines Romani; Sacramentarium Gelasianum). The reality of the two liturgical phenomena (consecratio per contactum; missa sicca), which survived for a period of twelve centuries, is consequently commented on. The reform of the rite from 1955 and also its contemporary form, in accordance with...

Úvod do interpretácie biblického textu v liturgickej poézii Cirkvi Východu

Introduction to the Interpretation of the Biblical Text in the Liturgical Poetry of the Church of the East

Maroš Nicák

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):91-112 | 10.5507/sth.2017.005

Pešīttā is, admittedly, the main source for East Syrian liturgical books. Its form and content were mended by a poet in ʿōnyāṯā (poetic genre), in the hymnological collection Wardā (the thirteenth century) in a historical context known as "the Syrian Renaissance". It consequently leads to the modification of the Biblical text, to poetic gradation, as well as to updating and to contextualising of the stories of the Old and New Testament in the line of the analogical life experience of the author and his listeners. The interpretation of the Biblical text in the liturgical poetry Wardā takes into consideration...

Prosopografický výskum fenoménu ženského eremitizmu/anachoretizmu v 4. a 5. storočí

Prosopographical Analysis of Female Hermitage and Anachoritism in the Fourth and Fifth Century

Peter Olexák

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):113-126 | 10.5507/sth.2017.006

The asceticism of women was genuine during the period of late Antiquity. The few sources that are at our disposal reveal their energy, their character, their exceptional cultural creative power that differed from society, their ability to make innovative decisions on their own, and even their courage to embark on enormous economic operations that had an impact on society itself and that did not comply with then the current standards and content. Making use of prosopographical research we intend to demonstrate that female hermitage was a novelty and not a more radical kind of virginity and this in light of the fact that monasticism used to be based...

Katolický evolucionista St. George J. Mivart o původu lidského těla a duše

The Catholic Evolutionist St. George J. Mivart on the Origin of the Human Body and Soul

Dominik Opatrný

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):127-141 | 10.5507/sth.2017.007

St. George Jackson Mivart (1827-1900) dedicated a great deal of his life to the struggle to prove that the theory of evolution and the Catholic faith are not mutually exclusive. Especially important is his idea that God created the human soul of the first person directly, but infused it into the human body created through secondary causes (i.e. evolution). The aim of this article is to demonstrate how this thesis is connected to the whole of Mivart's ontology.

K problematice morální odpovědnosti vůči budoucím generacím v sociálním učení církve:Pokus o filosofický přístup

The Problems of Moral Responsibility towards Future Generations in Catholic Social Teaching: Making a Philosophical Approach

Vojtěch Šimek

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):143-165 | 10.5507/sth.2017.008

The author assumes that it is worthwhile to approach Catholic Social Teaching from a philosophical standpoint. He analyses whether and how in the selected passages the term "responsibility (towards future generations)" is presented as relational and in at least three parts (Chapter 1). He deals with the issue of differentiation of the term "future generations" and with the problem of the rights of future persons (Chapter 2). Finally, the author reflects upon the two main theses of concept of intergenerational justice from the encyclical Laudato si' while investigating the meaning of the ultimate instance of responsibility and sanctions, using the mental...

Křesťanská etika versus manželství a rodina v sekularizované společnosti: konfrontace nebo dialog?

Christian Ethics Versus Marriage and Family in Secularized Society: Confrontation or Dialogue?

Jindřich Šrajer

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):167-182 | 10.5507/sth.2017.009

The article reflects the argumentation, content and presentation of the positions of Christian ethics, or more precisely, the Magisterium's positions on marriage and family, in the context of societal trends, challenges and confrontations. The article primarily emphasizes the conciliar paradigm with its openness to dialogue with the world and perceptiveness of the needs of contemporary man. This paradigm introduced a new concept of the marriage and family. The article attempts to demonstrate that Pope Francis has updated the conciliar paradigm. The Pope holds the position that the Church should be close to people in their life situations and that the...

Eva Zavadilová

Studia Theologica 2017, 19(1):183-198 | 10.5507/sth.2017.010

Regular theological institutes in the Czech Lands in the first half of the twentieth century were private institutes of an academic nature. There is not much known about their inner activities and the structure of studies. The aim of this contribution is to reconstruct the reality of the education and acquaint readers with the organization of studies at the concrete regular educational establishment of the Redemptorist fathers in Obořiště near Příbram, from the establishment of the institute in 1902 up until its abolition in 1950. On the basis of studies of archive sources, there would seem to have been an excellent ability on the part of Czech Redemptorists...
