Areiova kritika nauky Alexandra z Alexandrie o věčném bytí Syna s Otcem

Teaching of Alexander of Alexandria on Eternal Coexistence of the Son with the Father Criticized by Arius

Pavel Dudzik

Studia Theologica 2009, 11(1):1-12

The article introduces the most important theologians involved in controversy over Arius's teaching (Arius, Alexander, Eusebius of Nicomedia, Eusebius of Caesarea) and their positions in the theological debate. Then the article focuses on a short text extant from Arius's Letter to Eusebius, where Arius criticized teaching of Alexander of Alexandria, and on the basis of the analysis of this text it searches for Arius's arguments against the Alexanders teaching concerning eternal coexistence of the Son with the Father. On the one hand Arius emphasized that the Father who originated the being of the Son, precedes the Son, the Son has a beginning and before...

Mariánský kult v době a v díle arcibiskupa Arnošta z Pardubic

Mother of God in the life and work of Archbishof Arnošt of Pardubice

František Urban

Studia Theologica 2009, 11(1):13-24

This article deals with Arnošt of Pardubice, bishop and the first Archbishop of Prague since 1344. The author summarizes some important aspects of the life and work of this famous figure of Czech history. In the person of Archbishop Arnošt we can see a great builder, an open-handed sponsor of art and a very educated organizer of the life in his diocese. However, he was not only the Archbishop of Prague and counselor of Charles IV. But in him we find also a man of deep prayer and respect for the Mother of God. His worship and his sense for holiness can be an inspiration as much for us as it was for the people living more than 600 years ago.

Moral-theological Conception of Augustin Zippe (1746/7-1816), Moral Theologist at the Turn of Ages

Jaroslav Lorman

Studia Theologica 2009, 11(1):25-41

The present study is based on the work of the moral theologist Augustin Zippe: Anleitung in die Sittenlehre der Vernunft und der Offenbarung (Prague 1778). The main goal was to point to the openness in the thought of this theologian of the Age of Enlightenment, openness in the access to the own tradition of moral theology, but also in the access to the non-theological conceptions (mainly to the philosophers of "moral sense" - Shaftesbury, Hutcheson, Butler). Zippe criticizes and integrates their impulses into his own conception of successful Christian life. Zippe was convinced of the necessity to join the ethical requirements based on reason with the...

Jitka Jonová

Studia Theologica 2009, 11(1):42-59

The Nunciature in Vienna ensured communication between all dioceses of Austria-Hungary and the Holy See. During the period of the episcopate of ThDr Theodor Kohn as the archbishop of Olomouc/Olmütz(1892-1904), four nuncios took turns in Vienna: Galimberti (1887-1893), Agliardi (1893-1896), Taliani (1896-1903) and Di Belmonte (1904-1911). From their reports to the Vatican, we can find out the views of these nuncios and also those of the Holy See on the particular significant events in the archdiocese of Olomouc concerning Theodor Kohn, such as his election as the archbishop of Olomouc (Theodor Kohn had no aristocratic ancestry, but Jewish and Czech...

Ty ještě věříš, soudruhu?

You still believe in God, comrade?

Martin Weis

Studia Theologica 2009, 11(1):60-69

The top officials of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia almost always perceived any belief in God and religion as something negative, according to the marxist mantra that "religion is the opium of the people". This study by concentrating directly on the rank-and-file members of the Communist Party, is trying to find an answer to what degree the Party managed to achieve its goal to eradicate religiosity among its own members in the 2nd half of the 20th century. Considering the extent of the matter, this study is a piece of research analysing only the state of religiousness of the members of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in South Bohemia....

Křesťanská a buddhistická spiritualita - dialog v jinakosti

Christian and Buddhist Spirituality - the dialogue in diversity

Karel Sládek

Studia Theologica 2009, 11(1):70-79

The dialog between Christianity and Buddhism became the prompt of the 20th Century. Christians in the dialog with Buddhists remind themselves of the wealth of ways of meditations in their own tradition, while looking at the Buddhist ascetical practice. Buddhists in spiritual meeting with Christians inspire themselves to horizontal love to the fellow, which arises from the vertical contact with the love of God. The meeting with the Christian's love encourages the interest in the affairs of this world, as is evidenced by today's activities of Buddhists in the fight for human rights. Christians and Buddhists together turn to the world to advocate the...
